Candle Making with Natural Herbs and Flowers Workshop I

Students will learn how to use natural herbs and flowers found throughout our region to create naturally scented candles. Candles will be made with beeswax and mason jars. This class is sponsored by the Town of Jonesborough's Parks and Recreation Department.

Advanced Cyanotype
with Kay Grogg

Grades 9 - Adult
Advanced Cyanotype will take you to the next level of this photo process. Students will further explore the wet method, learn how to layer their prints, make double exposures, and print on fabric. This two-session workshop will emphasize cyanotype techniques so the students can successfully create cyanotypes at home.
Pre-requisite: Beginning level Cyanotype Class or basic Cyanotype experience.

Herbs in the Kitchen: Preserving and Cooking with Herbs from the Garden

Flower Painting & Vase Mosaic
with Beverly Thomas Jenkins

Grades 9 - Adult
This 4-day Impasto painting and mosaic workshop is for the person who wants to try painting and mosaics without having prior knowledge of either. Students will be creating a beautiful bouquet of flowers using water-soluble oil paint in a mosaic vase. The style is intuitive, casual, and abstract. The canvas is a 12" x 16" flat board which will fit a frame of your choice (not included). This is a great workshop to take with family or friends!

Gyrokinesis ® - Adult Fitness

Adult, 18 +
Gyrokinesis® is an exercise system that moves the body through all three dimensions. With the use of breath, students build coordination and flexibility to create a global sense of well-being. Movements focus on the plasticity and the support of the spine to help the overall function of the muscles and organs. Gyrokinesis® can be both dynamic and relaxing. Each class of Gyrokinesis® will leave you feeling light and better aligned. Students need to come to class with comfortable clothing and a yoga mat. Gyrokinesis® is performed barefoot or in sock feet.

Story Collecting
with Anne G'Fellers-Mason

Ages 15 - Adult
This two-part class is designed for those interested in collecting oral stories from family members, neighbors, veterans, and community members. Participants learn how to conduct one-on-one interviews as well as how to hold story circles through a combination of class instruction and hands-on training, covering such skills as generating effective questions, finding potential storytellers, creating the best environment, as well as proper use of recording equipment. Participants each receive a PDF guidebook which follows the training course and Power Points. All who complete the course will be certified story collectors for Jonesborough’s StoryTown Programs. All Participants are encouraged to continue using the skills learned in this class by becoming a StoryTown Brigade member, and to collect stories from Washington County community members for use in Jonesborough’s StoryTown programs, which include a monthly radio show, podcast, annual play, and other projects.

Canning Basics
with Robin Castania

This class will take place at the Gillespie Building, 1523 Persimmon Ridge Rd. Jonesborough, TN 37659.
This course will cover the basics of the two most popular ways of preserving food, water bath canning and pressure canning. We will go over publications from the National Center for Home Food Preservation as well as from the University of Tennessee Extension Office that will address food safety concerns for home food preservation and processing. Students will work directly in the preparation and processing of a few different foods; however, some preliminary preparation may need to be done by the instructor prior to class time. Students will come away with a basic knowledge of canning, where to go for additional information, and a jar of what they have helped can.
