Acoustic Guitar - Private Lessons - September- Kids & Teens

Calendar Sep 1, 2022 , runs for 4 weeks

Ages 7 - 17

These private lessons are for beginners or those with little to no past experience who are looking for an easy-going, fun environment. Students will learn basic terminology and foundational aspects of playing the guitar, chords, and melodies. Class is less theory and more practical application but can also be adapted to the needs and wants of each student. Students will need to supply their own guitar, strings, and picks. Four one-hour classes, one per week. Sessions will re-start every 4 weeks. You may register for additional sessions at your leisure.

Once you register for the class, you will receive an email or phone call to schedule your day and time for lessons. Four lessons/dates will be scheduled in this series. Lessons will restart each month through November. Please read the terms and conditions regarding rescheduling lessons and missed lessons.

Homeschool- Art Adventures

This class introduces your child to basic art skills and gives them an opportunity to grow as a young artist. Art Adventures has been designed for 5 to 7-year-old children to strengthen their knowledge in art and further develop art vocabulary and skills. With activities such as painting, drawing, mixed media and printmaking, students explore their creativity with exciting and fun projects each semester. Both new and returning students will continue to work on developing their skills with individualized instruction in a small group setting. Small class size allows for individual attention in a fun and inviting environment!

Mini Hand Building Session

Grades 5 - Adult

In this beginner class you will learn the basic clay building techniques needed to form pottery without the need of a wheel. Using minimal tools and most importantly your hands, you will learn to make coils, roll out slabs, and pinching techniques. Students will make many functional items such as bowls and serving plates, as well as fun, decorative pieces. Perfect for those new to clay and for the experienced thrower looking to expand their working knowledge of the medium. All clay, glazes, tools, and kiln firing time will be provided.

Thursdays, 10:30 am - 12:30 pm, September 1, 8, 15, 22.

 

Payment plan available: $25 deposit plus 1 payment of $93.00, paid every two weeks.

Homeschool- Creative Construction

Grades 3-6 

Creative Constructions is designed for students who have taken Art Adventures or have the basic art skills needed to create more complex activities and projects. This class will allow young creatives to construct original pieces of art and to learn more about painting, drawing, mixed media, narrative art, and printmaking. Creative Constructions student will be introduced to a variety of art materials and learn new artistic techniques while reinforcing the basic elements of art. For example, students will work with scratchboard, learn perspective drawing, try their hand at watercolor and acrylic painting, and learn about master artists. Small class size allows for individual attention in a fun and inviting environment!

Creative Circle Writers Group

This writers group meets on the second and fourth Thursday of the month at the McKinney Center. The group this year will focus on developing and generating stories for possible use in the monthly radio show “StoryTown Radio Show and Podcast” which performs at the McKinney Center and airs on WETS 89.5 FM. The group will also develop stories and pieces for other special story-based programs that are part of the StoryTown Initiative. In addition, members are encouraged to bring creative works to develop for their own purposes. Techniques in writing for radio and the stage are regularly discussed.

Brush & Pallete Knife Workshop - Flowers

This workshop is for the person who wants to try painting without having prior knowledge of painting.  Students will be creating a beautiful vase of flowers using acrylic paint.  The style is intuitive, casual, and abstract.  The canvas is a 9"x12" flat board which will fit a frame of your choice (not included).  This is a great workshop to take with family or friends!  

You can also reserve a private workshop with a minimum of 6 guests!  Please call the McKinney Center to make this reservation.
