Acoustic Guitar - Private Lessons - FEB- Kids & Teens - 30 minutes

Calendar Feb 1, 2023 , runs for 4 weeks

Ages 7 - 17

These 30-minute private lessons are for all levels of skill.  Students will learn basic terminology and foundational aspects of playing the guitar, chords, and melodies. Class is less theory and more practical application but can also be adapted to the needs and wants of each student. Students will need to supply their own guitar, strings, and picks. Four one-hour classes, one per week. Sessions will re-start every 4 weeks. You may register for additional sessions at your leisure.

Once you register for the class, you will receive an email or phone call to schedule your day and time for lessons. Four lessons/dates will be scheduled in this series. Lessons will restart each month through May.  Go ahead and register for future months if you wish. There are no refunds or make-ups for missed lessons.  

If you prefer a one-hour lesson, please sign up for that option instead.

Daytime Throwing

Grade 6- Adult

All levels of experience welcome.  This daytime throwing class will offer plenty of one to one instruction for beginners plus plenty of wheel time for the more experienced thrower to hone their skills.  All tools, materials, and firing time is included.  Small class size ensures wheel access and daily demos will provide tips and techniques needed to become confident on the potters wheel.

10:00 am - 12:30 pm, Thursdays, February 9, 16, 23, March 2, 9, 16.

Payment plan available: $25 deposit plus 4 payments of $64.25, paid every two weeks.

Homeschool- Art Adventures

Grades K-2

This class introduces your child to basic art skills and gives them an opportunity to grow as a young artist. Art Adventures has been designed for 5 to 7-year-old children to strengthen their knowledge in art and further develop art vocabulary and skills. With activities such as painting, drawing, mixed media and printmaking, students explore their creativity with exciting and fun projects each semester. Both new and returning students will continue to work on developing their skills with individualized instruction in a small group setting. Small class size allows for individual attention in a fun and inviting environment!

Homeschool- Creative Construction

Grades 3-6 

Creative Constructions is designed for students who have taken Art Adventures or have the basic art skills needed to create more complex activities and projects. This class will allow young creatives to construct original pieces of art and to learn more about painting, drawing, mixed media, narrative art, and printmaking. Creative Constructions students will be introduced to a variety of art materials and learn new artistic techniques while reinforcing the basic elements of art. For example, students will work with scratchboard, learn perspective drawing, try their hand at watercolor and acrylic painting, and learn about master artists. Small class size allows for individual attention in a fun and inviting environment!

11:00 am - Noon - Thursdays, February 16, 23, March 2, 9, 16, 23, 30, April 6, 13, 20.

Creative Circle Writers Group

Ages 15- Adult

This writers group meets on the second and fourth Thursday of the month at the McKinney Center. The group this year will focus on developing and generating stories for possible use in the monthly radio show “StoryTown Radio Show and Podcast” which performs at the McKinney Center and airs on WETS 89.5 FM. The group will also develop stories and pieces for other special story-based programs that are part of the StoryTown Initiative. In addition, members are encouraged to bring creative works to develop for their own purposes. Techniques in writing for radio and the stage are regularly discussed. 

10:00 am - 11:30 am, Thursdays, February 23, March 9, 23, April 13, May 11, 25. (No class on April 27). Class will meet every 2nd and 4th Thursdays.

Springtime Handbuilding with Clay

Winter is over and spring has sprung!  This special spring themed class will have you creating with clay using basic handbuilding techniques.  Expect to have several useful and decorative items to use around your garden and home.  All clay materials and tools will be provided.
