Clay - Beginning Hand Building, Function and Texture

Hand building with pottery is another way of working with clay. The basic techniques are easier to learn and the range of forms you can produce is much broader. If you are interested in clay, but are not sure the wheel is for you, consider hand building and begin creating wonderful functional pieces of artwork on your very first day. This class will give you the opportunity to create unique projects each week. Students will focus on the vocabulary of clay, slab construction, pinch pots, surface texture, clay impression, and more. For students who are looking for a place to express their creativity, hand building may be the experience for you.

Clay - Beginning to Intermediate Wheel
with Jess Parks
Adult
This class is for students who have taken the beginning class previously but may not be ready to move on to an intermediate or advanced class. Students will continue their knowledge and skills to create functional and decorative wares from clay. We will do at least five projects and students will have the opportunity to throw on the wheel. Decoration with surface textures, handles, and glaze examples will be discussed. Every class we will create different forms, and students will learn how to understand clay's versatility. You will have a chance to throw, trim, and modify a pot. After the fifth meeting, projects will be bisque fired. The last night is left for glazing. If you are interested in taking a clay class and would like to explore your creativity and enhance your skill this class may be for you. Only 6 spots available.

Clay Buddies

Grades K- 2
This entry level clay class is for the youngest of elementary school age children. Each class will be project-based to introduce young children to different clay working techniques. Children will learn planning and decorating techniques to complete projects.

Kids N Clay

Ages: 8 - 11
Grades 3-5
In this course, students will be exposed to a basic introduction to ceramic techniques designed for elementary school aged children. This class will create fun imaginative pieces which will be a mixture of decorative and functional items. This class includes all materials including clay, glazes, and kiln firing time.

Young Potters

Ages: 11 - 14
Grades 6-8
This is a pottery class for older elementary and middle school age children. In this course, students will create fun, decorative, and functional projects and can explore different techniques for working with clay including the pottery wheel.

Clay - Fairy Garden Art
with Kara Bledsoe
5th Grade - Adult
Let your imagination run wild and create a small doorway to another world. Class participants will have instruction on drawing their own pattern or may use some of the provided templates. The first class will focus on building a door frames and doors. The second class will be for painting and glazing. All materials provided. This is a kid friendly class. Anyone under the recommended age range will be considered an adult helper. These will be finished and ready for Saint Patrick's Day. Take all 3 Garden Art classes to create a series of works to display together.

Clay - Beginning Wheel, Form and Style

This beginning level class is designed for those wishing to develop their own skills on the potter’s wheel. This class is designed to build students’ skills in the foundational elements of clay, glazes, and terminology. Every class will demonstrate a different wheel throwing exercise.
There are only 6 spots in this class to ensure that each student has wheel access. The registration fee covers all materials including clay, glazes, tools, and kiln firing time.
Noon - 2:30pm, Tuesdays, March 18, 25, April 1, 8, 15, 29. No class April 22.

Clay - Flower Bells Garden Art Series
with Kara Bledsoe
8th Grade - Adult
Come create a beautiful organic bell-shaped flower that is meant to be displayed in your garden area on a shepherd's hook. We will use hand building techniques and decorate with vibrant colors. All materials and firings will be included. Your beautiful creations will be ready for your home by Easter. Take all 3 Garden Art classes to create a series of works to display together.
