Fairy Garden Cottage - 2 Day Workshop

Grade 9- Adult

Create a magical fairy garden this spring by learning how to make mini houses using flowerpots, paint, and natural elements. Each participant will make at least one fairy house and will learn how to decorate other areas of a fairy garden using sticks, pinecones, and found items. This will be a fun and magical class that is sure to please the fairies who visit your garden this spring.

Fireside Foot Stool

4th Grade - Adult

Instructor Carolyn Lowe will be sharing old skills with new friends in this four-hour workshop as well as discussing the history of the foot stool and talking about the materials used for the project.  Specifically for beginners, students will learn basic weaving skills such as how to follow a pattern.  Students will be using natural and colored reed which will make a lovely traditional pattern.  All materials are provided.  This foot stool will be a great keepsake or gift.  Instructor Carolyn Lowe would like to invite participants to come individually or with a young person (4th - 12th grade) to learn this traditional art form together in hopes of passing on this artform.  If coming with another person, you will work on your project together.

Basic Drawing Techniques: Build a solid foundation in drawing from life.

Composition: Discover how to arrange your subjects for visual impact.

Values: Explore the interplay of light and shadow for depth.

Color Theory: Master color mixing to achieve vibrant results.

Creating a Completed Painting: Apply your knowledge to produce a finished piece.

While some supplies will be provided, students will need to purchase their own materials. A detailed supply list will be sent upon registration, with an estimated cost of around $40-$45.

Clay - Beginning Wheel, Form and Style

This beginning level class is designed for those wishing to develop their own skills on the potter’s wheel. This class is designed to build students’ skills in the foundational elements of clay, glazes, and terminology. Every class will demonstrate a different wheel throwing exercise. 

There are only 6 spots in this class to ensure that each student has wheel access.  The registration fee covers all materials including clay, glazes, tools, and kiln firing time.

Noon - 2:30pm, Tuesdays, March 18, 25, April 1, 8, 15, 29. No class April 22.

Clay - Flower Bells Garden Art Series

Come create a beautiful organic bell-shaped flower that is meant to be displayed in your garden area on a shepherd's hook.  We will use hand building techniques and decorate with vibrant colors.  All materials and firings will be included.  Your beautiful creations will be ready for your home by Easter.  Take all 3 Garden Art classes to create a series of works to display together.

Introduction to Scratchboard Art

Grades 9 - Adult

Award winning scratchboard artist Susan Everitt will lead students in discovering the techniques used in scratchboard art, sometimes called "the art of taking away."  Session One will focus on learning basic scratchboard techniques including how to transfer your image/design to the board and how to create values on scratchboard.  Each student will create a 5" x 5" scratchboard piece of a butterfly.  Reference photos and materials will be provided.  In Session Two students will focus on learning how to add color working from your photo reference to your scratched piece.  Various forms of inks and paint can be added and re-scratched, allowing for softness and a range of values to enhance the detail.  Materials provided and open to all skill levels.

Bird Feeder Decorating and Design

During this one-day workshop, students will explore their creative side by decorating and personalizing their own functional bird feeder. All students' work will be finished with a beautiful glaze and fired to perfection.  Fired projects may be picked up two weeks after class.

Flower Painting & Vase Mosaic

Grades 9 - Adult

This 4-day Impasto painting and mosaic workshop is for the person who wants to try painting and mosaics without having prior knowledge of either.  Students will be creating a beautiful bouquet of flowers using water-soluble oil paint in a mosaic vase.  The style is intuitive, casual, and abstract.  The canvas is a 12" x 16" flat board which will fit a frame of your choice (not included).  This is a great workshop to take with family or friends!  

9:00 am - Noon, Wednesdays and Fridays, March 26, March 28, April 2, 4.
