The Art of the Stroke: Oil & Acrylic Painting
with Donna Bird
Adult
Every painting begins with a single stroke. In this class, we will focus on the expressive power of brushwork and mark-making to bring energy, depth, and personality to your paintings. You will explore different types of brushstrokes, from bold sweeping marks to delicate controlled touches, and experiment with palette knives and other tools to discover new ways of creating texture and variety. Attention will be given to how stroke direction, pressure, and rhythm influence the overall mood and structure of a painting, helping you approach your work with greater intention.
Exercises will center on small paintings no larger than 8x10 inches, each featuring a single subject to keep the focus on stroke quality and technique. Painters working in either oil or acrylic will develop confidence and versatility while embracing the creative freedom of expressive mark-making. Some supplies will be provided, and a detailed supply list will be sent upon registration.
1:00-4:00pm, Mondays, March 2, 9, 16, 23, 20, April 6.
