Watercolor - Intermediate Level - ONLINE CLASS

Grades 9 - Adult

This is a class for students who would like to explore watercolor painting from home. It continues the study of watercolor techniques introduced in Fall Semester’s Basics of Watercolor online class, but it is open to all students who wish to experience watercolor painting. Zoom instruction includes step-by-step projects designed to guide you through the painting process from start to finish. The course will offer a variety of special techniques and approaches to making watercolor paintings of different subjects. Students will work on paintings along with the instructor as she demonstrates the steps. You will also receive emails with detailed Power Points so that you may practice further or complete a piece at home. Each session will also be recorded. Students will receive a supply list after they register. Students may purchase their own supplies or through the McKinney Center for an extra $50.00. If purchased through the McKinney Center materials can be picked up prior to class (if given proper notice).

Cost is $109 plus supplies

Payment plan available: $25 deposit plus 2 payments of $42.00, paid every four weeks.

Basics of Watercolor

This is a class for students who would like to explore watercolor painting in-person. Instruction includes step-by-step projects designed to guide you through the painting process from start to finish. The course will offer a variety of special techniques and approaches to making watercolor paintings of different subjects. Students will work on paintings along with the instructor as she demonstrates the steps. You will also receive resources so that you may practice further or complete a piece at home. Materials are included but students are welcome to bring their own supplies.

5:30 - 7:00 pm, Mondays, February 13, 20, 27, March 6, 13, 20, 27, April 3, 10, 17.

Payment plan available: $25 deposit plus 2 payments of $82.00, paid every four weeks.

Portrait Painting Workshop

In this workshop, students will use a photo reference to better understand all the stages that go into painting a portrait.  This one day class will cover topics as lighting the model properly, strategies for mixing flesh tones, accurate placement of features and much more.  We will also look at examples from both modern day and classical portrait artists for insight and inspiration.  This class is suited for oil and acrylic painters who have had some drawing and painting experience.  Easels will be provided but students will need to bring their own supplies.  Supply suggestions will be sent to registrants.  Bring a lunch!

Floral Painting Workshop

Capturing flowers in all their glory is a worthy but often challenging task.  This one day class will teach students how to approach this subject by learning to see flowers as abstract shapes in order to achieve realistic results.  Topics will include:  mixing color to achieve more vibrant results, flower arranging, brushwork, lighting and backgrounds.  We will also look at current floral artists as well as historical masters and their approach to floral painting.  This class is best suited for oil or acrylic painters.  Easels will be provided but students will need to bring their own supplies.  Supply suggestions will be sent to registrants.  Bring a lunch!

Painting Workshop

Grades 9 - Adult

This 2-day workshop is for the person who wants to try painting without having prior knowledge of painting.  Students will be creating a beautiful vase of flowers using water-soluable oil paint.  The style is intuitive, casual, and abstract.  The canvas is a 9"x12" flat board which will fit a frame of your choice (not included).  This is a great workshop to take with family or friends!  

You can also reserve a private workshop with a minimum of 6 guests!  Please call the McKinney Center to make this reservation.

Fairy Garden Cottage - 2 Day Workshop

Grade 9- Adult

Create a magical fairy garden this spring by learning how to make mini houses using flower pots, paint, and natural elements. Each participant will make at least one fairy house and will learn how to decorate other areas of a fairy garden using sticks, pinecones, and found items. This will be a fun and magical class that is sure to please the fairies who visit your garden this spring.
