Play-In-A-Week Camp

Class Limit:  16

Can you make a play in a week?  You will get the chance to do this at the McKinney Center THIS SUMMER!

Starting from scratch, students will work alongside professional theatre makers to create an original performance in just one week.  You will develop a range of performance skills and learn technical theatre skills working alongside practicing artists.  You will also make new friends and have a lot of fun in the process.

There is even a free lunch club from Noon - 12:30, where you can hang-out and have lunch with directors, designers, choreographers, poets, and musicians.

Spots for, Play-In-A-Week, are limited to 16 students, and is expected to fill up quickly.  Register early to avoid disappointment.

Registration fee covers snacks and a camp T-shirt.  Students should bring their own lunch unless notified otherwise the day before.

This camp is partially funded by the Tennessee Arts Commission.

A confirmation email will be sent to you upon registration with further information and tips regarding summer camp.

May 31, June 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 (students will meet on Saturday, June 5)

9am - 2pm

FINAL PERFORMANCE and "tailgate" lunch at 2pm on Saturday, June 5.

Movie Makers

Calendar Jun 7, 2021 at 1 pm, runs for 1 week

Grades 7 - 12

Class Limit:  8 students

Students will work together to create a film of their own.  As a class they will write, direct, shoot, act in, and edit their own film, using high-def digital editing software. Green Screen technology will also be an option, as students place characters in historical settings or exotic locales. Students will also have access to props, costumes, artifacts, old documents, photos and letters, and have the freedom to shoot in locations throughout town, including the historic cemetery, the Chuckey Depot, and areas that are usually closed to the public, such as the Christopher Taylor Cabin. Student films will be presented at the 7th Annual Jonesborough Student Film Festival on November 4, 2021 where they will have the opportunity to ride in a limo from Jonesborough's Visitors Center to the McKinney Center.  Once at the McKinney Center they will proceed down a red carpet to their movie premier!  Family and friends will be invited to attend!

Camp registration fee includes the use of all tech equipment, licenses used, supplies, snacks, and a camp T-shirt.  Students may be asked to bring costume items from home such as hats, scarves, shoes, etc.

1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Gillespie Building - 1523 Persimon Ridge Road, Jonesborough, TN.  This building is at the entrance of Wetlands Waterpark.  The Gillespie Building is owned by the Town of Jonesborough and is the location of the McKinney Center's film studio!

Payment plan available: $25 deposit plus 2 payments of $56.66, paid every two weeks. Final payment of $56.68.
