Artsploration Camp

Calendar Jun 14, 2021 at 9 am, runs for 1 week

Grades: K – 6

Class Limit: 16 students

Students will spend the week exploring the colorful diversity of the world through art projects from many cultures. Classes will incorporate a broad range of art techniques and media, including painting, sculpture, clay, and drawing, while discovering each culture’s rich visual traditions. Students will also learn about world customs, music, and celebrations, making the week a wonderful experience for both beginning and experienced young artists!

Registration fee includes all materials and supplies, snack, and a camp t-shirt!

Pottery Studio 101

$255

Calendar Jun 14, 2021 at 1 pm, runs for 1 week

Grades: K – 6 (Grade levels are flexible)

Class Limit:  10 students

In this fun and messy class students will learn hand-building techniques and the use of the potter’s wheel. Students will also experience the delight of creating with their own hands and imagination in clay. Our goal is for each student to produce five projects that will go home with them to enjoy or give as gifts.

Registration fee includes materials such as clay and glazes, supplies, snack, and a camp t-shirt!

Projects need time to dry and will be fired in a kiln.  Therefore, final projects will be available for pick up approximately 2 weeks after camp.  The McKinney Center and camp instructors will notify parents when items are ready.

Full Course

Simple Sewing

$155

Calendar Jun 21, 2021 at 9 am, runs for 1 week

Grades: 5 – Adult

Class Limit: 10 students

Sewing camp gives students the opportunity to learn basic sewing skills while making functional and fun items. Patterns, thread, and material will be included. Students will start with a pillowcase, applique pillow, beach bag, and their choice of a skirt or shorts!

Registration fee includes materials, supplies, snacks, and a camp t-shirt!

Students should bring their own machines if they have them.  The MKC does have a few that can be loaned but you must reserve the machine at time of registration.

Butterfly Garden Sculpture Workshop

All ages welcome!  Children under age 12 should register with an adult.

Class Limit:  8

In this one-time workshop, students will make a beautiful butterfly using clay.  Students will learn basic clay hand-building techniques to make this long-lasting work of art that can be used in the yard, garden, or home.  

This is a great workshop to do with your children, family, and friends!  The class will take place in the McKinney Center's spacious auditorium with a maximum of 8 students.  

There will be a 30 minute break so bring a bag lunch and snacks!

Registration fee includes all supplies, concrete, etc.  Students should bring an old hand towel or kitchen towel.  Students should wear clothing and shoes that you don't mind getting messy!

Garden Stone Workshop

All ages welcome! Children ages 12 and under should register with an adult.

Class Limit:  8 students

This fun workshop will capture your memories for years to come!  Each student registered will create at least one concrete garden stone.  All materials will be provided.  However, if you have special items to place in your stone you may bring it (broken china, jewelry, coins, etc.).  This is a great workshop to do with your children, family, and friends!  The class will take place in the McKinney Center's spacious auditorium with a maximum of 8 students.  

There will be a 30 minute break so bring a bag lunch and snacks!

Ceramic Party Platter Workshop

All ages welcome!  Children ages 12 and under should register with an adult.

Class Limit:  8 students

In this one-time workshop, students will learn to build their very own party platter using hand-building clay techniques.  This class will take place in the McKinney Center's spacious auditorium with a maximum of 8 participants.  Sign up with your family and friends and have some creative fun!

There will be a 30 minute break so bring a bag lunch and snacks!

Registration fee includes all supplies, clay, glazes, two kiln firings, etc.  Students should bring an old hand towel or kitchen towel.  We will provide aprons but students can bring their own and wear clothing and shoes that you don't mind getting messy!

Clogging and Appalachian Folk Dance Camp

Calendar Jul 26, 2021 at 9 am, runs for 1 week

Ages 12 - Adult

Class Limit:  16 students

This fun, energetic course will focus on beginner's clogging and folk dance, and includes basic rhythmic techniques, percussive footwork, and precision teamwork in a socially-distanced manner.  The camp will take place in the spacious McKinney Center auditorium with a maximum of 16 students.  No prior experience required!  Clogging shoes are encouraged, but any closed-toed, flat-heeled shoe will do.  Workout attire is also suggested.  Music will vary from traditional old-time bluegrass to more contemporary pieces.  Students will have the opportunity to perform what they have learned at the end of the week.

Registration fee includes snacks and a camp t-shirt.
