Metals for Kids and Teens

Grades 4- 8

This is a great class for kids, grades 4 - 8, who want to learn about wire wrapping, basic hammer texture, plier use, the properties of different metals, beadwork, and much more!  Students will leave with a collection of bracelets, ornaments, earrings, necklaces, and rings as they choose what they would like to create with each process we learn.

4:30 - 5:30 pm, Thursdays, February 16, 23, March 2, 9, 16, 23.

Payment plan available: $25 deposit plus 2 payments of $61.00, paid every four weeks.

High School Metals

Grades 9 - 12

This is a great class for teens, grades 9 - 12, who want to learn about texturing and forming sheet metal, wire wrapping, basic hammer texture, plier use, the properties of different metals, beadwork, and much more!  Students will leave with a collection of bracelets, ornaments, earrings, necklaces, and rings as they choose what they would like to create with each process we learn.

6:00 - 7:30pm, Thursdays, February 16, 23, March 2, 9, 16, 23.

Payment plan available: $25 deposit plus 2 payments of $80.50, paid every four weeks.

Young Potters

Grades 6-8

This is a pottery class for older elementary and middle school age children. In this course, students will create fun, decorative, and functional projects and have the opportunity to explore different techniques for working with clay including the pottery wheel.

9:00 -10:30 am - Saturdays, February 18, 25, March 4, 11, 18, 25.

Payment plan available: $25 deposit plus 2 payments of $63.00, paid every four weeks.

Creative Circle Writers Group

Ages 15- Adult

This writers group meets on the second and fourth Thursday of the month at the McKinney Center. The group this year will focus on developing and generating stories for possible use in the monthly radio show “StoryTown Radio Show and Podcast” which performs at the McKinney Center and airs on WETS 89.5 FM. The group will also develop stories and pieces for other special story-based programs that are part of the StoryTown Initiative. In addition, members are encouraged to bring creative works to develop for their own purposes. Techniques in writing for radio and the stage are regularly discussed. 

10:00 am - 11:30 am, Thursdays, February 23, March 9, 23, April 13, May 11, 25. (No class on April 27). Class will meet every 2nd and 4th Thursdays.

Portrait Painting Workshop

In this workshop, students will use a photo reference to better understand all the stages that go into painting a portrait.  This one day class will cover topics as lighting the model properly, strategies for mixing flesh tones, accurate placement of features and much more.  We will also look at examples from both modern day and classical portrait artists for insight and inspiration.  This class is suited for oil and acrylic painters who have had some drawing and painting experience.  Easels will be provided but students will need to bring their own supplies.  Supply suggestions will be sent to registrants.  Bring a lunch!

Acoustic Guitar - Private Lessons - MARCH- All Ages - 60 Min.

These 60-minute private lessons are for individuals of all skill levels who are looking for an easy-going, fun environment. Students will learn basic terminology and foundational aspects of playing the guitar, chords, and melodies. Class is less theory and more practical application but can also be adapted to the needs and wants of each student. Students will need to supply their own guitar, strings, and picks. Four one-hour classes, one per week. Sessions will re-start every 4 weeks. You may register for additional sessions at your leisure.

Once you register for the class, you will receive an email or phone call to schedule your day and time for lessons. Four lessons/dates will be scheduled in this series. Lessons will restart each month through May.  Go ahead and register for future months if you wish. There are no refunds or make-ups for missed lessons.  

Weeks of March 1, 6, 13, 20, 27.

Glass Fusion - Folded Vase

A two-hour glass fusion workshop making a beautiful, decorative, folded vase.  Each student will make one vase.  All materials are included and fired projects will be available two weeks after class.
